After just a few weeks from its much-discussed debut in the One Piece manga, Luffy's powerful new Gear 5 form already has a beautiful statue, thanks to the awesome artists and creators at BT Studio. Fans of One Piece had been waiting for years to see the next step in the evolution of Straw Hat Luffy's powers and fighting style. Gear 4 was already an incredible upgrade, and readers wondered what would come next from the creative mind of Eiichiro Oda.
Surely, very few expected that Luffy's Gear 5 debut would come with a massive revelation about the true origin of his powers. In chapter 1044, readers learned that Luffy's abilities did not come from the Gomu Gomu no Mi Devil Fruit, as believed since chapter 1 of the beloved manga. In fact, the Straw Hat captain ate the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, a Mythical Zoan type that gives him the power of a still-mysterious mythological figure known as Sun God Nika. Luffy unlocked his true powers by «awakening» his Devil Fruit ability and called his new transformation Gear 5.

In this form, Luffy retains his previous rubber body abilities, but he is now apparently only limited by his imagination in the way he can use them. He has been shown manipulating his body in the most bizarre ways, from becoming a giant to looking like a comedy cartoon. He is also able to influence his surroundings with his awakened powers, and that includes both objects and people. Gear 5 seems to take inspiration from the traditional «rubber hose» animation style and various cartoon effects. BT Studio did a great job in immediately putting out a model for a Gear 5 statue, which you can see below courtesy of retailer G.A.C.
