The shifting tides of the Galactic War can bring constant changes to the experience, but one recent adjustment to the game completely overhauls the way that armor should be approached in every mission. Although the best offense is a good defense is typically a good mantra when it comes to games, it hasn't always been true of. With the newest update, however, the list of effective armor choices has grown significantly, making for more diverse and interesting strategic options to deploy against the Terminids and Automatons.
The main issue with armor in has been the armor rating, a value that's intended to cover the basic defense that each piece of equipment offers. Although light, medium, and heavy armor options are supposed to feature ratings that increase appropriately with weight and bulk, the system has been bugged, making the armor rating equivalent across all levels. There's been no good justification for using heavy armor in thanks to this issue, as individual perks can't really outweigh the fact that light armor could offer the same basic protection with significantly increased mobility.
The big change to armor comes courtesy of Minor Patch Minor Patch 01.000.100, which can be viewed in its entirety on Steam. The leading entry under a long list of fixes refers to a solution for ," finally addressing the issue that's been plaguing since launch. Developer Arrowhead Game Studios had already established in past patch notes that a fix was in the works, but it's a major relief to see it actually go live.
Going the tank route in has never been particularly viable in the past, but the armor rating fix puts it on the table as an actual option. It still doesn't necessarily outcompete the light armor approach, and heavy armor could probably use some further patching to withstand a bit more in the way of Terminid attacks, but it can be an effective way to tank some hits from Automatons.
