While Batman may be the World's Greatest Detective and one of the most brilliant minds in DC Comics, there is one mystery that even he has not solved. When black power rings are used to resurrect the dead, among those who return is an imposter Batman whose true identity has never been revealed. Even the Dark Knight has not figured it out.
During the massive 2009-10 crossover Blackest Night, the avatar of death Nekron unleashes a plan to eradicate life throughout the galaxy. Black power rings are spread far and wide to resurrect individuals who have died. Powerful beings such as Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern's predecessor, Abin Sur, fall under their control and join Nekron's army of the undead. Even Batman is brought back to life when Bruce Wayne's skull is taken from his grave.

The only problem is that this isn't really Bruce's skull. After fighting Darkseid in 2008's Final Crisis, Batman was believed dead. In reality, he was launched through time via the Omega Sanction to relive his past lives. Eventually, Bruce Wayne returns and resume his mantle of Batman. But before that happens, Black Lantern Batman wreaks havoc during Blackest Night, which was written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Doug Mahnke. Who this Batman is and how he is resurrected is a mystery that has yet to be solved or even given much credence in the DC Universe.
What's strange is that the real Bruce Wayne later has another interaction with a black power ring during the Dark Nights: Death Metal storyline.
