Warning: contains spoilers for Deathstroke Inc #8!
DC has just denied Ra’s Al Ghul, one of Batman’s greatest villains, redemption—in the cruelest fashion possible! Ra's Al Ghul, one of the few villains who can match the Dark Knight, had seemingly had a change of heart and was ready to use his knowledge and experience to better the world—but as seen in recent issues of Deathstroke Inc., fate had other plans. Issue #8, on sale now in print and digital, sheds further light on the Head of the Demon’s recent motivations. The issue is also part three of the “Shadow War” crossover event.
Ra’s al Ghul first appeared in 1971’s Batman #232, created by the legendary team of writer Denny O’Neil and artist Neal Adams. Introduced as an eco-terrorist, Ra’s al Ghul has lived for centuries, thanks to the rejuvenating Lazarus Pits. Ghul saw Batman as a worthy successor, hoping the Dark Knight would marry his daughter Talia, and give him a grandson. While Batman never did marry her, they did have a child—Damian Wayne. Recently, Ra’s and Talia appeared before the world, to turn themselves in for their crimes. However, Ra’s was seemingly killed by Deathstroke, leading to an all-out war between Ghul’s League of Assassins and the Secret Society, which Deathstroke recently reformed. While the real Deathstroke works to clear his name, readers have been left wondering why Ghul was turning himself in, and Deathstroke Inc. #8 sheds light on why. The issue is written by Joshua Williamson and illustrated by Paolo Pantalena.
