Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor says returning for the series was more rewarding than working on the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Obi-Wan Kenobi is perhaps the most anticipated Star Wars series released by Disney to date. The series follows the iconic titular Jedi after the events of Revenge of the Sith as he watches over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine while evading the Empire's Jedi hunters. The series once again sees McGregor returning to the role of Obi-Wan, as well as fellow prequel star Hayden Christensen returning as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. After a long wait, Obi-Wan Kenobi releases on Disney+ in May.
While George Lucas' Star Wars prequel trilogy was not well-received during their original releases, the films have seen somewhat of a resurgence over the last few years. This is partly due to the rise in «meme culture» on the internet, as all three prequel films have certainly found themselves being exploited for some of their hilariously written lines of dialogue. Of course, this may also be due to the fact that many adult Star Wars fans today are those who grew up when the prequel trilogy was being released in theaters, so there is certainly an element of nostalgia attached to the films. With that said, while the prequel trilogy may have its flaws, many fans agree that McGregor's portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi is not one of them, and his performance over the three films has since become almost as iconic as Alec Guinness' portrayal in the original trilogy.
