Princess Leia resisted all of Darth Vader’s forms of interrogation in A New Hope and an episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi explains how she countered one particularly potent method. The dark side ability to probe another’s mind has seen increased popularity in recent years, with numerous dark side users, Sith or otherwise, employing it in interrogations. For Force users of particular aptitudes, such as Rey and Leia, this power can be resisted.
The power of probing minds via the dark side debuted in Return of the Jedi, where Darth Vader discovered the identity of Luke’s sister, and the ability would appear in subsequent Legends-era materials, such as the opening cutscene of Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. The power was used prominently in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as a specialty of the Knights of Ren leader, Kylo Ren. Since then, the ability has seen use from other non-Sith, such as Maul (who left the Sith Order involuntarily) and the Imperial Inquisitors, such as the Third Sister.

The Third Sister, not knowing of Leia’s true heritage and natural strength in the Force, attempts to probe her mind in the Obi-Wan Kenobi episode “Part IV.” Although Leia shows signs she’d been in pain from the attempted mind probe, the Third Sister’s attempts to read the untrained Force-sensitive’s mind are unsuccessful. Leia is held prisoner aboard the Death Star only nine years later, and although the dark side mind probe ability isn’t referenced in A New Hope, it was almost certainly used against her with a similar lack of success.
