Nintendo has issued a warning to Nintendo Switch owners in Japan about using their system in certain temperatures, due to an ongoing heat wave that is sweeping the country. The current-gen systems are designed to be used in living rooms while connected to a TV, so they're usually not exposed to the elements, but the Nintendo Switch is a portable system, which means it has to face the natural world.
The Nintendo Switch isn't quite as secure as Nintendo's last two handheld systems, as the clamshell design of the Nintendo DS and 3DS line of systems meant that the screens could be protected by the exterior of the console. The Switch's screen is made from plastic, rather than glass, so it's difficult to outright smash, though it is susceptible to scratches. Nintendo has done a great job in the past in ensuring the durability of its handheld systems, with Satoru Iwata insisting on Nintendo DS systems being dropped from chest height repeatedly during testing, in order to ensure the systems were as strong as possible. The Nintendo Joy-Con drift issues have stained the company's reputation in recent years, but the systems themselves have generally held up well, even in the hands of kids.
