Faerin Lothar, a new character from World of Warcraft: The War Within, has a prosthetic limb in the form of a shield. This awesome new World of Warcraft character will accompany players in the Hallowfall region in The War Within, where her unique fighting style will literally help save the day.
Hallowfall is the third region World of Warcraft players will explore in The War Within. Dominated by a color-shifting crystal that features World of Warcraft’s first dynamic environmental lighting effect, the Arathi of Hallowfall revere the Sacred Flame. The Lamplighters are a group of Paladins who go out of their way to protect the people of Hallowfall by keeping the dawntowers lit, and the darkness at bay.
Among the Lamplighters, Faerin Lothar is a paragon, and one of the first Arathi players meet in Hallowfall. She is a stalwart champion of the Light who is the first to act when people are in danger, and her compassion and friendship with Anduin is central to the story of the World of Warcaft: The War Within. However, Faerin has a special detail about her: she lost her left arm and eye to an injury 15 years ago. In spite of that, Faerin is a skilled fighter, and by wielding a prosthetic arm in the form of a shield, the Lamplighter is no stranger to the front lines.
World of Warcraft has depicted injuries like Faerin’s in the past. Characters like the Blood Elf regent Lor’themar Theron have one eye, and most player characters can even give themselves similar blind eye customizations. That said, prosthetics are much less common, with only Mechagnomes, demons like the Mo’arg, and Shattered Hand orcs like Kargath Bladefist being some of the only examples. According to some The War Within dialogue captured by Wowhead, Faerin is even more unique in that she chooses not to wear a prosthetic off the battlefield, as she is already used to living without an arm.
