Thirteen years after Wii Sports Resort and 16 years since Wii Sports launched, Nintendo fans are finally getting the successor to those games in Nintendo Switch Sports. For a while, gamers had been wondering why Nintendo hadn't brought out a new sports title. Nintendo Switch Sports appears to be doing more than just adding some sports to play by swinging around a Joy-Con, as the upcoming title seems to be an homage to previous Nintendo sports games as much as it is giving players something entirely new.
Despite Miis not being included in the Switch, it was discovered in February that the popular customizable characters from the Wii would be making their way to Nintendo Switch Sports. These discoveries were made through datamining, but in March the leaks were confirmed to be true as an official trailer for Nintendo Switch Sports showed fans that they could once again create their own characters. There was initially some controversy when the first trailers for Nintendo Switch Sports dropped as it appeared that Miis were being replaced with new characters.

However, not only are Miis returning for the player, but one of the most famous and terrifying Miis to exist in Wii Sports is also making his return. New screenshots provided by Nintendo show Matt in Chambara, one of many game modes available for Nintendo Switch Sports at launch. Matt initially appeared in Wii Sports and was one of the toughest CPU opponents for players to take on as they sought to become the best at any given sport.
Matt was the champion of boxing in the original Wii Sports and served as such a tough opponent that players have remembered him even so many years after the game launched.
