Mario Golf, the 1999 classic that catapulted Mario from the Mushroom Kingdom to an afternoon of 18 holes with his best friends (and enemies), is now available on the Nintendo Switch for Expansion Pack subscribers. Mario Golf joins the likes of other Mario spinoffs from the Nintendo 64-era like Dr. Mario 64 and Mario Tennis, as well as classic titles such as Yoshi’s Story and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time.
A faithful adaptation for the Switch, Mario Golf is played in its original 4:3 aspect ratio with black bars on the sides. Thankfully, Nintendo has updated Mario Golf to have both online and local multiplayer functionality.

Like other Mario sports games, Mario Golf simplifies golf to be far more accessible to novices. Courses are set up almost like enormous mini-putt greens with a Nintendo theme. For those looking for something more challenging than regular golf, Mario Golf adds several different game modes such as Speed Golf (where each round is timed) and Ring Shot (where players have to hit balls through rings). Mario Golf features six 18-course holes and 14 characters, including Mario, Yoshi, Wario, and Bowser.
You’ll need to be a Nintendo Online subscriber and have the Expansion Pack to play Mario Golf. Otherwise, you can try your hand at Mario Golf: Super Rush, the latest sequel in the franchise that was built specifically for the Nintendo Switch.
