Learning a new language is hard. It takes time and effort, and once you're at a conversational level you have to practice regularly to make sure you don't forget crucial words and grammar rules. Apps like Duolingo have done well to gamify the process and help people stick with it. A new iOS platform Lingo Legend, launching March 15, aims to go further: teaching you languages with video games.
Lingo Legend aims to make learning a language fun and unintrusive by fusing lessons with video games. The first video game on the platform is Yorthwood, a card-battling RPG.

Yorthwood will feature all the expected staples of its genre, including exploration, deck building, battling monsters, as well as craftable weapons and a customisable camp. To play a card against your foes you'll have to answer a language question - think of it like having to learn a combo in a fighting game.
The platform and games are developed by Hyperthought Games. Yorthwood is the first of several planned titles that will entice learners and players to the app. The app will be completely free, featuring multiple language courses that will "help people become fluent in a variety of subjects" within their chosen language.
There will also be options for monthly, 6-monthly, and lifetime subscription options for people who would prefer to upgrade from the free version - the lifetime option will require a one-off payment for full, permanent access.
Lingo Legend is intended to be accessible to all, including children, meaning parents could start their kids on a second language early. It also means that people who have no experience learning languages can jump straight in without worrying things will be too
