A second has arrived and gives us a better look at the return of Michael Keaton’s abrasive pest.
With Tim Burton‘s hotly anticipated sequel to his beloved 1988 horror comedy less than two months from release, its promotion is heating up. So this latest Beetlejuice Beetlejuice trailer does a fine job of showcasing the weird and wonderful world of the dead.
The trailer starts with Jenna Ortega‘s Astrid Deetz dishing out some acidic putdowns to her snarky classmates. Then we discover she’s not exactly a fan of her mother’s infamous past in ”The Ghost House” and doesn’t believe in the supernatural. Something of an inverse of the first film’s dynamic between Lydia and her parents
Something transpires that causes Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz to summon Betelgeuse. And so underworld shenanigans ensue as Keaton’s Ghost With the Most cracks wise just like old times whilst backed by the Bee Gees track Tragedy.
Thirty-six years after the events of the first film, the Deetz family returns home to Winter River following Charles Deetz’s unexpected death. Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened, releasing Betelgeuse.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is directed by Tim Burton (Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands) and written by Miles Millar, Alfred Gough (Shanghai Noon) and Seth Grahame-Smith. It sees Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara return to reprise their respective roles from the original movie. The fresh cast members include Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), Justin Theroux (Mulholland Drive), Monica Belluci (Dracula), Willem Dafoe (Poor Things), Arthur Conti, Danny DeVito (Batman Returns), and Burn Gorman (Pacific Rim).
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is set to be unleashed in theaters on September 6, 2024, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
