After years of pleas from passionate fans, NBA 2K24 will introduce crossplay across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in a franchise first when it releases on 8th September, 2023. To be clear, the crossplay functionality will only apply to Sony and Microsoft’s new-gen platforms – it won’t extend to last-gen consoles like PS4 or even PC. In the case of older systems, it makes sense as the new-gen versions have fundamentally different gameplay.
As announced earlier in the week, Kobe Bryant will feature on the cover of the standard release and its more expensive Black Mamba counterpart. The latter comes with 100,000 VC, 15,000 MT Points, and a bunch of other digital content, including a Sapphire Kobe Bryant Cover Star card for use in MyTeam. In addition, there’ll be a 25th Anniversary Edition which comes with a 12-month subscription to NBA League Pass, allowing you to stream live basketball matches online.
As in previous years, there’ll also be a WNBA-themed version, which will be exclusive to GameStop retailers in North America. This special edition will feature New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu on the cover.
As for the game itself, on new-gen consoles specifically, 2K Sports is promising the introduction of ProPLAY, a “ground-breaking new technology that directly translates NBA footage into gameplay and delivers animations and movements via on-court NBA action for a generational leap in authenticity”. More information on that will be announced at a later date.
