The upcoming Disney+ National Treasure television series officially has its title. The previously untitled soft reboot project will act as an expansion of the hit film franchise that launched with the Nicolas Cage lead original in 2004. Both installments in the franchise went on to be financial successes for Disney, as the first movie grossed over $347 million with a $100 million budget, while its sequel grossed over $459 million with its $130 million budget. In 2008, developments started on a third National Treasure film that is still in development to this day over a decade later, as Cage believes that the project has since been put on the back-burner while Disney focuses on the upcoming National Treasure television series.
The National Treasure television series will set its focus on a fresh face with Jess, a young girl who surprisingly discovers her family’s shocking secret history. Jess, who works for the FBI where she showcases her puzzle-solving abilities in the Cryptoanalysis Division, embarks on her own history-packed adventure as she rushes to expose the truth about the mysterious past, all while attempting to save a previously lost North American artifact.
