Warning! Spoilers ahead for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations chapter 67!
Boruto just completely flipped Naruto's character by making him a better father-like figure—but at the expense of his role as Hokage to the point where he's undoubtedly the worst leader that Konoha has ever had.
In chapter 67 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, readers learn that the massive tease in the last installment, which greatly implied that Kawaki might have actually killed the series' eponymous shinobi and Naruto's biological son, did actually happen. Boruto is dead, and Naruto is understandably a wreck. But, incredibly, the Hokage refuses to take the counsel of his second in command Shikamaru Nara to at least consider that the village should come up with a plan on how to deal with Kawaki especially since the boy just proved that he will do anything to achieve his goals—even murder his own comrade. The most important moment, however, occurs when Shikamaru tells Naruto that there will be backlash within Konoha if he doesn't do something since many villagers already feel negatively about him, but Naruto refuses to even consider their feelings since Kawaki is family.

Naruto's inability to give up on Kawaki undoubtedly stems from his own struggles as a child when Konoha rejected him for being a Jinchūriki. He always wanted the love and support that Kawaki now has but that he never actually received himself until much later in life. Naruto may have always wanted to be accepted by his own people, but he did also desire to become Hokage during that same period—and everything he did was in service to that.
