Some new fixes have finally come to N64 games on the Switch, but many issues are still present.
The addition of Nintendo 64 games to the Nintendo Switch’s online service has been undermined by all manner of technical issues, ranging from input delay to missing effects.
The addition of The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask to the service though, looks like it has brought with it fixes for at least some of the issues.
Last month, fans noticed that the water in The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time’s Water Temple had been fixed to render reflections, just like in the original release. The atmospheric fog was still missing but now that’s been added back in as well, not just in the temple but also Kokiri Forest and Mario Kart 64’s Choco Mountain.
A nasty Paper Mario crash that triggers if you get a game over with a specific character in your party has also been fixed and, according to dataminer OatmealDome on Twitter, a patch has been added to Banjo-Kazooie – although what it does is unknown.
It’s not all good news, unfortunately, as some games haven’t been fixed. Yoshi’s Story appears to still suffer from bugs, with one player claiming that the Inviso boss’ invisibility effect has only partially been fixed. The same person adds that Dr. Mario 64’s incorrect transition effects remain as well.
Currently, it’s unclear if Majora’s Mask has problems of its own, since it only launched today, but you can expect dedicated fans to uncover any particularly egregious issues.
Either way, while it’s good to see Nintendo actively address its emulation troubles, these problems really shouldn’t have been a thing in the first place, especially since the company is charging fans double the price of a regular online subscription to play these beloved
