Multiplayer hack-and-slash Mordhau has arrived on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, bringing its hectic medieval battle to consoles. And, thankfully, you can take on combatants from either PlayStation and Xbox with full crossplay.
Mordhau first launched on PC in 2019, bringing its 64-player hack-and-slash multiplayer chaos to players everywhere. Developed by Slovenian studio Triternion, the game exemplified skill-based combat, something our review back in 2019 praised, especially for a freshman release for the indie studio. Mordhau was so popular at launch that it sold through a million units in just two months.
Fast forward to today and the multiplayer brawler has been released on both Xbox and PlayStation consoles, bringing the medieval mayhem to a new user base. Mordhau isn't the first medieval hack-and-slash game to come to consoles, with Chivalry 2 hitting back in 2021. However, while Chivalry requires skill to take on opponents, it has a more arcadey feel compared to the complexity that Mordhau brings to the table. Both are great, but definitely different experiences.
Character creation is also making its return to Mordhau with the console versions, giving players a wealth of customization options to create a unique experience. Freedom is at the heart of the game as well, meaning that you don't simply need to charge in sword and shield raised high, but instead can utilize different swords, ranged weapons, pikes and much more to fight, using the terrain and strongholds around you in each map to your advantage.
Mordhau will be crossplay across consoles, and it's not just current-gen consoles getting into the action. Mordhau has released across Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
