Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani would love to see her hero team up with one specific X-Men character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios' latest Disney+ series saw Vellani make her professional acting debut as Kamala Khan, a 16-year-old Captain Marvel super fan turned superhero. Ahead of Ms. Marvel’s release, changes made to the protagonist’s powers caused a stir online, with viewers speculating on why and how Ms. Marvel’s powers were altered.
In the comics, Ms. Marvel is an Inhuman with the ability to extend her limbs and shapeshift. In the show, her powers appeared to stem from a cosmic bangle and a connection to the Clandestines, rather than her genetic code. In the mid-credits scene of Ms. Marvel’s finale, Bruno discovered Kamala was able to activate the bangle’s Hard Light abilities thanks to an unusual “mutation” in her genes—a revelation accompanied by the X-Men '97 animated show theme. Following Disney/Marvel Studios’ acquisition of Fox in 2019, the MCU’s implementation of mutants has been eagerly anticipated. Now, Ms. Marvel is the mainline MCU’s first mutant, not fan-favorite X-Men Wolverine. However, Vellani would still like to see Kamala team up with Weapon X.
