I hadn’t even found this note, and yet I’ve put over 100 hours into my playthrough. Nevertheless, if you want to know what’s inside, here’s what this note details and why it’s crucial to the plot.
In this Reddit post on the BG3 subreddit, this user asks if they were the only one to find this note. It seems that many players also discovered this note, but most BG3 fans haven’t even found this crucial note about the truth on the Absolute. Spoilers ahead, obviously.
If you break into Gortash’s vault in the Counting House, you can find a note that essentially details the entire plan from the Absolute, starting all the way back to the Nautiloid crash. Remember the beginning of the game where you and your companions were stuck in a Nautiloid ship and fed a tadpole?
Well, guess whose plan this was the entire time? None other than the Emperor, your Guardian who has been misleading you the entire time! It’s crazy that almost no one is talking about this, because most players trusted the Emperor and sided with them until the very end.

One reply said that the Emperor was on that ship just to be in proximity to the Astral Prism, which would have the Emperor rebel and go after the Netherstones, inevitably freeing the Absolute in the end. We were all fools!
A lot of players also said that finding this out made it a whole lot easier to choose to free Orpheus instead of keeping him imprisoned inside the Astral Prism. Another reply said that you can find the same note in multiple places, heightening the chances of you discovering this twist.
It’s also very likely that the Emperor was the same mind flayer who gave us the tadpole at the beginning! It’s not confirmed, and there’s much debate on this topic, but it seems many players believe
