Broken Ranks will bring the second part of its promised gear overhaul in late June. The development team at Whitemoon Games recently shared an update on what to expect.
The team made the first round of changes, and they’re pleased with the reception, saying that the new gear customization system (using modifiers called drifs) was successful in offering opportunities for obtaining rare items. This even led to community members helping one another, as they “created many new builds and even simulators that aid players in choosing the right gear”.
The next steps of the gear update and overhauls are on the way. This time, the gear star system is getting a rework and the team is adding changeable difficulty levels to instances. Originally, they had announced plans for an extra slot that you can place an item to add attributes from destroyed gear, for another upgrade option. The team has now canceled this in favor of overhauling the gear star system. The new system is called incrustation, and they explain the new mechanics for the newer, more complex mechanic. Currently, the more stars, the more attribute points, but this option will give you the chance to get a variety of bonuses you can use, including more resistances, upgrade multipliers, increased gear capacity, or other bonuses that even enhance your drifs.
“Pieces of gear with the same name will have exactly the same attribute bonuses at ornament level one. Incrustation will then add random attributes and resistances to the base, meaning that the same piece of gear may have different attributes and resistances for each player. However, you will also be able to reforge gear in exchange for gold.”
