Among these new additions is the Quematrice, a Brute Wyvern that is one of the very first monsters in that you will be forced to beat to progress further into the campaign.
Compared to the first official monster, Chatacabra, the Quematrice can represent a big leap in difficulty. Not only is it a larger beast, but it’s more agile and it hits much harder. Its attacks have more range than the amphibian and, thanks to this, you might see your hunter getting knocked away with attacks. Compared to some of the late-game monsters that you’ll face closer to the end of the story or after beating the campaign, the Quematrice is an easy Wyvern to topple, but knowing what strategies to employ could significantly improve your experience.
The first step toward beating Quematrice is to locate it. You can hunt down Quematrice through the main story quests, optional quests, or try to find it in the open-world sections of certain map areas. If you take on a hunt quest, you’ll automatically be put into its habitat, but if you’re searching for it without taking on a mission, there are two locations you can look to, provided you’ve progressed enough into the campaign and unlocked them. The first location for the Quematrice in is the Windward Plains, the starting area unlocked after completing the prologue.
Monster Hunter Wilds is a lushly beautiful and ceaselessly thrilling entry in the series, but its performance and on-rails story can be distracting.
