Monster Hunter Rise players are tasked with taking on some of the biggest and nastiest monsters in the series to date. But Monster Hunter Rise is not as cut and dry as simply finding the monster and slaying it. Sure, sometimes it can be, but there are quests that will task the player with capturing the monster. When left to their own devices though, which is the better option?
There are players on both sides of the fence. Some would argue that the more ethical choice is to capture the monster, much like catch and release fishing. Others simply yearn for the battle and want to focus on the combat. But is there a concrete, no further questions asked, answer for capturing instead of killing?

Capturing a monster in Monster Hunter Rise is often the easier of the two choices. In addition to being generally faster, it allows players to gather items that they wouldn't be able to otherwise from simply killing the monster. Case in point, hammer users aren't able to sever the tail to collect it but can acquire a tail from capturing the monster.
To capture a monster, players must first make it vulnerable. This is indicated by the blue icon in the upper-right section of the screen, underneath the monster's portrait. A monster's exhaustion is also indicated by the creature drooling and limping. Once in this state, the monster is ready for capture. Simply place a trap, lure the monster into it, and pop a few tranq bombs. It usually takes no more than two or three tranq bombs to successfully capture any monster.
Killing a monster is just as common a choice as capturing it for similar reasons. Without capturing there is no need to worry about crafting
