Co-op games have become more prominent in the Internet age, and the widespread COVID-19 pandemic has further solidified online cooperative titles as an important means of staying connected. It Takes Two winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2021 is one of the best recent case studies. Ghost Ship Games' first-person shooter Deep Rock Galactic is another co-op title that has grown in popularity over the last few years, owing to its developer's steady pipeline of content and expansion to new consoles.
Deep Rock Galactic began as a passion project for six developers in 2016, and by November 2021 it hit three million sales across all platforms. That was before the game launched for PlayStation 4 and 5 on January 4, 2022, at which point it also became a free PS Plus title to capitalize on the service's built-in subscribers. Between this expansion and the recent introduction of seasonal content, no doubt Deep Rock Galactic is more popular than ever. Now Ghost Ship should prioritize letting fans on different platforms go mining together.
