It works by having a rope become attached to an invisible bat, as ropes can only be bound to an animal, and then having a series of commands pull the player towards this location.

This YouTuber makes all sort of interesting things in the game, including a giant Minecraft version of Frogger, as well as designing a fully working tank. It shows a great amount of skill on the content creator's part, but it also shows just how much can be done in Mojang's open-world sandbox game as well.
