Here’s your first look at Minecraft’s weird live action movie, which is a guaranteed money spinner from where we’re sitting. At just 90 seconds long, there’s very little in the way of story setup – but we’re not exactly expecting an Oscar winning script from this adaptation. It appears to be some kind of isekai, where Jason Momoa and a gang of four kids ended up in a voxel-based otherworld.
To be fair, outside of the live action stuff, the CG looks very high budget. We also get a glimpse of Jack Black playing Steve – with his name being one of the punch lines.
Test it out from today
The blurb reads: “Four misfits – Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers) and Dawn (Danielle Brooks) – find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.
“To get back home, they'll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative – the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.”
It looks garish, silly, and strange – but those are arguably all the qualities we’d expect from a Minecraft movie. Expect this to make bank when it launches from 4th April in cinemas.

Just seen the trailer on Nintendo life. Not for my demographic but I can see the little kids enjoying this and that’s who it’s aimed at.
