Minecraft players are absolutely gagging for more sources of light, but Mojang seems to have left them wanting. They all got some renewed hope when the Torchlight plant was added, but surprisingly, unlike its name suggests, it doesn't even emit a faint glow. The people have taken to Reddit to voice their frustration, confusion, and ideas of what they'd do with the plant if it did work as they'd hoped.
"Please make them glow Mojang, they'd make a great alternative to torches," pleads OP NinjaGamer1337. Right now, if you're playing vanilla Minecraft, you've only got torches, glowstone, and some lanterns. It may seem like there's already plenty on offer, but it's all man-made stuff or cubic, so people wanting a more naturalistic or woodland fairy-themed base are out of luck. Torchlight plants that glow would fix that issue. Considering the new Cherry Blossom biome looks like a magical fairy land, it seems like an awful oversight these flowers don't light up.

Eightbit_Timer noted that, "these would be so good for spawnproofing your base". Hostile mobs don't spawn anywhere with a light level of eight or above, so keeping your home well-lit is essential to keeping creepers out. Instead of having torches littering the floor, which is rather unsightly, you could line pathways with pretty flowers and have them doted about the more open parts of your homestead.
