4A Games, the studio behind the popular Metro series, will be present at this year's Gamescom event as an exhibitor.
This info comes from the official Gamescom website (as spotted by Insider-Gaming earlier today). According to the official exhibitor list for Gamescom 2023, the originally Ukrainian studio will be present at the event at Hall 3.2 | Stand: D051/C050. Among other attendees in the same hall is Sherlock Holmes studio Frogwares as well as SS.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 developer GSC Game World.
A new Metro game has been confirmed to be in development at 4A Games as of 2019 - at least, that's what publisher THQ Nordic said during an earnings call back then. As covered earlier this year (also via Insider-Gaming), the Metro Exodus sequel is said to be in a fully-playable state, and could very well be released sometime next year. This new Metro installment is being influenced by real-life events:
"The next Metro game is also changing for the better", Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors said back in February of this year. "And not simply because of the circumstances we find ourselves in. We’ve never hidden the fact that the Metro series has always carried a strong political and anti-war message. Yes, we’ve always wanted to entertain and immerse you in our post-apocalyptic world but there’s also been a bigger story to tell. And the war in Ukraine has made us re-think what kind of story the next Metro should be about. All the themes of Metro – conflict, power, politics, tyranny, repression – are now part of our daily life experiences. So, we’re embracing them and weaving them into the game with a renewed purpose."
Gamescom 2023 will take place in Cologne, Germany from August 23 through August 27 in the Kolnmess exhibition center.
