A sequel to 2019's Metro Exodus is reportedly deep into development, even fully playable, and could release as soon as 2024.That's according to Insider Gaming's sources, who suggest that an official reveal will come later in the year.
Developer 4A games have previously revealed the existence of the title, writing in 2020 that «It’s no secret that we have already started work on the next Metro game. Using everything we’ve learned from the last 15 years, we’ve set our sights even higher – the next title is being built for Gen 9 consoles and PC, with a complete overhaul of our engine and renderer to take advantage of the new power, storage, and hardware supported ray tracing afforded by the new consoles.»
Little else is known about the game, outside of it perhaps beginning with a dream sequence, but it's fairly safe to assume it will follow in the footsteps of the excellent and gorgeous Metro Exodus. Players will no doubt find themselves creeping through the ruins of a world post-nuclear war, now inhabited by nightmarish abominations and the tattered remnants of extremist groups fighting over the scraps that remain.
