Mephisto Was Never Considered For WandaVision Or Doctor Strange 2
Screenwriter Michael Waldron reveals that Mephisto was never considered for WandaVision or Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Originally created by Stan Lee and John Buscema, the devilish villain made his Marvel Comics debut with The Silver Surfer No. 3 as an antagonist to the former Fantastic Four enemy and most notably the Johnny Blaze version of Ghost Rider. The latter connection would come into play for his live-action debut with Peter Fonda portraying Mephistopheles in Nicolas Cage's first Ghost Rider movie and Ciarán Hinds taking over the role for its sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness chronicled the journey of Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda as she struggles through her grief from losing Paul Bettany's Vision in Avengers: Infinity War. The Disney+ series saw her accidentally create an alternate reality in which her love is still alive and they have a family together, all the while she learns of her chaos magic abilities and eventually getting her hands on the Darkhold, an ancient text further empowering her and seemingly helping her learn of a way to get her kids back.Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness saw Wanda corrupted by the Darkhold and Benedict Cumberbatch's titular sorcerer forced to put a stop to her with the help of old and new allies, Wong and America Chavez.
