Warning: SPOILERS for Moon Knight season 1!
Two cameos from Marvel Cinematic Universe characters were cut from Moon Knight's finale and premiere. Marvel Studios announced plans for Moon Knight in 2019 and brought more excitement to the project once Oscar Isaac was cast as Marc Spector/Steven Grant. The series finally debuted on Disney+ in early 2022 and sends Moon Knight on a standalone mission set after Avengers: Endgame. Marvel primarily let Moon Knight tell its own story, as the show repeatedly opted against making major MCU connections. This mindset continued with the show's cast, as there were not any known MCU characters to appear.
The lack of MCU connections made Moon Knight stand out even more from the rest of the movies and shows Marvel Studios has made in Phase 4. Just looking at the Disney+ shows, all of the previous series starred characters who were in the movies. They also used additional supporting characters and villains. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier brought back MCU characters like Baron Zemo and Sharon Carter, and WandaVision used Darcy Lewis, Jimmy Woo, and Monica Rambeau. Now that Moon Knight season 1 is finished, audiences know that there weren't any familiar MCU characters to make surprise cameos — but that wasn't always the plan it seems.
