Best known for playing Baron Zemo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Daniel Brühl is now set to head the upcoming motorsport thriller 2 Win. Directed by Italian filmmaker Stefano Mordini in what will be his first English language feature film, 2 Win is inspired by real-life events that took place in the 1983 Rally World Championships during the fierce rivalry between automotive giants from Germany (Audi) and Italy (Lancia). The story revolves around German racer Roland Gumpert, who is competing with the Italian driver Cesare Fiorio to win the prestigious tournament.
Now, it's been confirmed (via Variety) that Daniel Brühl has been tapped to play the role of Gumpert in 2 Win, with Riccardo Scamarcio (John Wick: Chapter 2) set to play the part of Fiorio and German actor Volker Bruch (The Girl in the Spider's Web) also joining the cast. The screenplay was penned by Filippo Bologna together with Mordini and Scamarcio. The film is expected to begin production later this month in Europe, with filming to take place on location in Italy and Greece, including some real-life spots where the events took place.
