Marvel's Frank Grillo must protect his family from terrifying creatures in his next horror project, The Dagon. Grillo is best known as the mercenary villain Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, going toe-to-toe with Captain America before perishing during the Lagos Catastrophe in Captain America: Civil War. Since then, Grillo has quietly established a penchant for starring in action-thrillers like Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, Copshop, and Wheelman. He is also a notable star in The Purge franchise's Anarchy and Election Year.
Variety reports that Grillo will return to the horror genre in The Dagon, a new feature film by Fractured director Brad Anderson. "The Dagon is tailor made for his huge talents and I couldn't be happier to have him on board," Anderson says about the veteran actor. Adapting an original screenplay by Peter Mattei, Anderson will team with Grillo for the first time but is an experienced thriller filmmaker, having directed the dangerously thin Christian Bale in The Machinist.

In The Dagon, Grillo plays Jack, a father living in rural isolation with his family. When his eldest daughter comes of age, Jack must face the deadly monsters surrounding the family's home every night. Despite the actor and director's respective experience with thrillers, The Dagon sounds like it will be Grillo's most horror-leaning project since The Purge and the overlooked supernatural film Demonic in 2015. He will also lead the upcoming werewolf picture Year 2. Joining Anderson and Grillo are producers Neal Edelstein (Mulholland Drive) and Mike Macari (The Ring), who call the project riveting. Independent Entertainment will look to sell The Dagon at Cannes later
