Spider-Man: No Way Home saw Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) appear in a surprise cameo role, advising Peter Parker (Tom Holland) after his superhero identity was revealed to the public by Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). This appearance was followed by the return of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in Hawkeye and the Marvel Netflix shows moving from their prior home to Disney+.
With these moves all but confirming the Marvel Netflix shows are canon to the MCU, Disney+'s latest venture, Moon Knight, has created another continuity problem concerning The Defenders saga. The Marvel Netflix shows, produced by Marvel Television instead of Marvel Studios like the Disney+ shows, featured very loose connections to the wider MCU. With their canonicity being unclear until recently, some continuity issues have appeared in Marvel Studios productions over the years, with Moon Knight being the latest to carry on this trend.

Moon Knight episode 5 introduced audiences to Marc Spector's family, with Marc's father making a continuity issue apparent. Marc's father, Elias Spector, is played by actor Rey Lucas, known for various TV roles, including Manifest and The First. More importantly, though, Rey Lucas has appeared in the MCU before as Detective Tomas Ciancio in Luke Cage. Ciancio appeared in two episodes of Luke Cage season 2, with the titular character enlisting his help during an investigation into the Yardies, a Jamaican crime family, and a subsequent murder investigation into Mariah Dillard.
