Marisa Tomei reveals that she would love to return to the MCU as Aunt May, following her tragic death in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Tomei made her MCU debut back in Captain America: Civil War as the newest iteration of the beloved comic book character, who becomes Peter Parker’s guardian following the death of his parents. Tomei has since appeared as May in each of the subsequent Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, including last year’s highly anticipated No Way Home.
This latest film saw Holland’s Peter face his toughest challenge yet, after a number of villains from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man universes, such as Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Jamie Foxx’s Electro, crossed over into the MCU timeline. The villain who would cause the most heartbreak and chaos for Holland, however, was Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, who killed Aunt May following an intense battle with Parker. The heart-wrenching scene saw Tomei deliver a variation on the classic Spider-Man line, “With great power, comes great responsibility,” and marked a turning point in Holland’s Spider-Man journey.

Now, Tomei opens up about returning as Aunt May in the future, revealing that she would “love to come back.” During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tomei says she doesn’t actually understand the multiverse and had to ask Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts to explain it to her on multiple occasions.
