Warning: Spoilers for Thor: Love and Thunder
Thor: Love and Thunder effectively ended any debate over who would win between the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy in the MCU. Though both teams are heroes, there has long been speculation over who would come out on top in a fight. Since both sides bring plenty to the table in terms of powers and skills, it’s one of several dream matchups that are often discussed by MCU fans.
Thanks to developments that took place in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, a bridge was formed between Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and Star-Lord’s Guardians team, thus making it possible for members of both teams to interact with each other for the first time. Endgame even offered a big twist by having one Avenger – Thor – fall in with the Guardians. As a result, the Guardians, Thor, and Korg were able to share a number of adventures together in the MCU. Thor’s stint with the group ended early on in Thor: Love and Thunder, but what transpired in the movie provided a clear look at just how much firepower he was able to add to the team.

Interestingly, how things played out with Thor and the Guardians resolved the old Avengers vs. Guardians of the Galaxy debate. The Guardians couldn’t win the battle in the movie’s opening and were losing when Thor showed up. Single-handedly, the God of Thunder turned the tides and defeated every remaining enemy on the battlefield. A solitary Avenger easily making short work of an army that had Star-Lord’s entire team pinned down proves that the Avengers are the superior group.
