Lightsabers look set to return to Fortnite just in time for Star Wars Day on May 4.
Back when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker released, Fortnite teamed up with Disney to bring a range of skins, gliders, and items to the game. Oh, as well as giving some pretty plot-important lore, no biggie. Among these items were lightsabers, Mythic level melee weapons that could be found on the map and came in four variants, Rey, Luke, Kylo Ren, and Mace Windu.

After that Star Wars crossover was finished, Epic vaulted the lightsabers and only brought them out once more a year later to celebrate Star Wars Day in 2020. It looks like that's about to happen again, at least according to several Fortnite insiders. Reliable Fortnite leaker and source Hypex shared an image of the lightsabers on Twitter yesterday and said, "It's nearly confirmed now that Lightsabers will return next update for May 4th, as Epic are working on a challenge that requires you to deal damage with a lightsaber."
Challenges are one of the most reliable ways to find out information about Fortnite before Epic releases it, as dataminers can find references to game modes, items, and changes to the map through them before the updates go live. It's how we previously found out about the return of Tilted Towers before that was announced.
That's not the only bit of evidence for lightsabers coming back to Fortnite, however. Hypex also Tweeted, "The lightsabers chests were also updated!", which is a reference to the unique chests that held the lightsabers back when the were first introduced.
