Neowiz and developer Round8 Studio have announced that their Souls-like game Lies of P will be coming out on 19th September across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One and PC – oh, and on Game Pass as well.
But what if you can’t wait until September? Well, there’s a demo that’s out now!
The demo gives access to the first two chapters of Lies of P, including some challenging boss encounters and introductions to important characters. There’s apparently hours of gameplay here as you explore the Hotel Krat.
“We’re beyond excited to announce that Lies of P will launch September 19th on console and PC and that fans everywhere can play the demo now,” said Jiwon Choi, Lies of P Project Director. “We hope the experience delivers on our creative approach to the Souls-like genre and interpretation of the Pinocchio lore– and looking forward to seeing the response from our incredible community.”
What’s particularly eye-catching is the flow and precision of combat, each battle being a careful ballet of parries and blows similar to Soulsborne titles and their many imitators. The name Bloodborne will no doubt continue to crop up as we approach Lies of P’s release date given the gloomy period setting. That said, there’s a clear distinction between the two games, Lies of P blending in automatons, submarines and other twisted 20th Century imagery into the game.
The “P” in the title refers to Pinocchio and you will play as the world famous puppet, attaching various upgrades as you hack and slash your way through this grim retelling of the old fairytale.
