Layers of Fears is no more; it's just Layers of Fear again as Bloober Team scraps the S from the title whilst handing it a release window. The PS5 remaster ties together scenes from the first two games with new sequences, and it will be out this June according to the trailer above. This means it'll be competing for attention alongside the likes of Street Fighter 6, Diablo 4, and Final Fantasy XVI.
The YouTube description pitches Layers of Fear as both PS4 games along with their expansions bundled in with a new The Final Note DLC. Then there's also «the never-before-told story of The Writer, which will tie everything together». And presumably, all that content will be brought into the modern era with better resolutions and frame rates.
From Bloober Team (developer of the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake), the first Layers of Fear title is certainly seen as the better of the two, so it'll be interesting to see whether the Polish team does much to bring Layers of Fear 2 up to that same standard. Either way, it's out for PS5 in roughly four months.
Liam grew up with a PlayStation controller in his hands and a love for Metal Gear Solid. Nowadays, he can be found playing the latest and greatest PS5 games as well as supporting Derby County. That last detail is his downfall.
Very much looking forward to this considering I never completed the 2nd game. I really didn't get on with it, but that was mostly due to the more unpolished feel and some dodgy balancing in certain scenes. I enjoyed the setting, the music and what I saw of the story. A few tweaks and it could easily stand shoulder to shoulder with the first one for me.
Both games are prime contenders in further proving the worth in remasters. They had that so-close-yet-so-far
