In a video about breaking The Last of Us Part II's scripted scenes, YouTuber and modder Speclizer revealed that an ending where Abby dies is not possible. The ongoing divisiveness surrounding Abby's role in TLoU 2 stems from two key plot points — one being her killing of a fan-favorite character and the other being that she survives at the end. It's no wonder, then, that modders continue to test the waters where this particular character is concerned.
And make no mistake, there are numerous The Last of Us Part 2 mods to go around. One created by YouTuber smasher248 allows players to assume the role of Joel thanks to a model-swap with Ellie. A similar build from TheMagicalBlob turns Jesse into a playable character. Another mod from content creator Freako even features the ability to reskin infected and WLF soldiers with the game's main characters, thus giving life to TLoU 2's Abby Invasion where mobs of Abby lookalikes swarm the player.

In a «Busting Myths with Mods» video, YouTuber Speclizer (via Kotaku) broke scripted scenes in The Last of Us Part 2 in an attempt to achieve different outcomes. One test involved bringing firearms and melee weapons into the final fight between Ellie and Abby. Notably, the mod-centric video shows that despite the former mowing down the latter with a machine gun, Abby can't be killed in the sequence. Not even the Seraphites' oversized axes could do the trick. Speclizer learned that it's also impossible to save Joel early in the game, too. In addition, the video below reveals that Abby can't kill Tommy under certain circumstances, despite a past TLoU 2 clip showing Tommy dying at her hands during the chase sequence
