Coach Jason Brown from Last Chance U had to resign from his position due to controvery. The rural school in Kansas became the focus of the Netflix sports docuseries beginning in season 3. As the case with the first two installments, Last Chance U focused on a junior college (JUCO) football program that served as the literal «last chance» for the young men to make it in the sport. When viewers met the Indy Pirates, they are also introduced to Brown and his personal style of coaching.
The Netflix football series Last Chance U revealed that Brown was a Compton native who had a troubled childhood. He found refuge through football, spending some time in the NFL and the Arena Football League before focusing on coaching. Brown initially coached at Compton City College before moving to Garden City College. He then landed at Indy as the head coach of the Pirates, a team that didn't have a winning record in a decade up until the 2016 season.

During Indy's 2017 season at the focus of Last Chance U season 3, Brown led the team to a program-best 9-2 record and the school's first bowl game win. Unfortunately, Coach Jason Brown soon found himself at the center of a controversy, and as a result, his tenure as Independence Community College's head football coach ended.
The Pirates' 2018 season didn't go as smoothly for Brown or the entire program. Whereas Brown's tough demeanor seemed to work in Last Chance U season 3, there was an issue when it came to the respect between the coach and his players.
