Kong: Skull Island Show Image Reveals First Look At Godzilla Spinoff
Everyone's favorite giant ape is making his way back to the screen in the first Kong: Skull Island show image. The anime series marks the first spinoff in Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise that kicked off with the Gareth Edwards' Godzilla, the second American-produced Godzilla movie after the disastrous Roland Emmerich film. Kong: Skull Island was the second installment in the MonsterVerse and shifted the action back to 1973 as a group of scientists and Vietnam soldiers become marooned while studying the titular island and must fight to escape.
Following the success of the first two outings, Legendary forged ahead with its interconnected MonsterVerse plans, including Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong and the upcoming Kong: Skull Island anime. The series was ordered by Legendary and Netflix in early 2021 with Love and Monsters and Spontaneous' Brian Duffield set to write and co-executive produce with Jacob Robinson. After over a year of development, audiences are finally getting their first taste of what's to come from the next chapter of the MonsterVerse.

As part of the streaming platform's Geeked Week, Netflix has released the first Kong: Skull Island image. The still from the upcoming anime series shows two characters standing on a beach of the titular locale in the middle of a footprint from the iconic MonsterVerse character.
