Netflix's One Piece live-action manga adaptation shows off the massive pirate ships in the upcoming series. Based on the manga by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece is written by co-showrunners Matt Owens and Steven Maeda and stars Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate on a journey to find the «one piece» and become the King of the Pirates. Other already announced cast members include Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji, along with Morgan Davies as Koby, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida, Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Jeff Ward as Buggy, McKinley Belcher III as Arlong, and Vincent Regan as Garp.
One Piece is the best selling manga series in history, debuting in 1997 and going on to sell over 490 million copies worldwide. It was adapted into anime form in 1999 and has so far aired over 1,000 episodes and 20 seasons. The franchise spawned 14 original animated films and 13 animated specials, making it one of the most popular anime series of all time. A live-action adaptation of One Piece has been in the works since 2017, with Netflix officially announcing its involvement in 2020. Since then, the show has been deep in production, filming in South Africa with some truly amazing sets, and an ever-growing cast assembling to bring it all to life.
