Knives Out 2 will reportedly hit Netflix sometime during the last quarter of 2022, according to Variety. Additionally, the film is slated to make a festival premiere beforehand.
Production on the sequel wrapped in September 2021, so these preliminary plans reported by the publication indicate that post-production is progressing smoothly. It also potentially means it won't be too long before early details begin to crystallize for Knives Out 3, as the streaming service acquired both sequels for a reported $465 million in April 2021 in a move signaling Netflix's intentions of betting big on getting into the franchise business.
Knives Out 1 director Rian Johnson is coming back to write and direct the sequel. He's producing the movie as well, alongside Ram Bergman, who also worked on the original. In addition to working with Netflix, Johnson is also developing Poker Face, a 10-episode mystery series for Peacock that will star Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll). Johnson is still planning his Star Wars trilogy.
Knives Out 2 has assembled an amazing supporting cast so far. No details about any characters have been revealed yet, but this list of names alone makes the movie a must-watch: Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, Army of the Dead), and Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks, Stranger Things), Jessica Henwick (Underwater, Love and Monsters), Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision), Kate Hudson (Deepwater Horizon, Almost Famous), Janelle Monáe (Homecoming, Antebellum), Edward Norton (The Incredible Hulk), and Leslie Odom Jr. (One Night in Miami).
According to a report, Johnson, Bergman, and Craig will be paid $100 million each.
