Netflix's new noir thriller Windfall gets an official release date. The popular streaming platform acquired the film in July 2021 in a massive 8-figure deal after production wrapped earlier that year. Being billed as a «Hitchcockian» thriller, Windfall follows a wealthy couple who find a man breaking into their vacation home. Charlie McDowell, son of iconic actor Malcolm McDowell, directs the film from a script by Justin Lader (The Discovery) and Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en).
Bloody Disgusting reports that Windfall is coming to Netflix on March 18, 2022. Most other details are still under wraps, but the cast includes How I Met Your Mother star Jason Segel, Emily In Paris' Lily Collins, and Power of the Dog's Jesse Plemons. Segel and McDowell conceptualized the story, which the official Netflix preview page clarifies is about an arrogant "tech billionaire" and his wife. For some reason, Netflix did not feature Windfall in their 2022 Movie Preview trailer.

Actor Omar Leyva (Grey's Anatomy) is also on board in an unknown role and is the final cast member revealed. All signs point to the film being minimalistic; Collins stated it was created and filmed during the pandemic, and the small cast could indicate an isolated and character-driven thriller. Producers include McDowell, Segel, Collins, Plemons, Alex Orlovsky, Duncan Montgomery, and Jack Selby. David Duque Estrada, Elika Portnoy and Rick Covert serve as executive producers. With an expected release date arriving so soon, more details about Windfall should come out in the following weeks, including an official trailer and poster, but both McDowell and Collins have called the film "out-of-the-box."
