By having Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) arrested, Superman & Lois season 2 set up a huge change to the status quo for the Man of Steel. In a shocking development, Anderson (Ian Bohen) laid a trap for Clark and managed to subdue him with Kryptonite. Afterward, it was discovered that Clark has been accused of treason by the United States military, presumably for not giving up Bizarro’s location.
Relations between Superman and the government have been a bit rocky ever since General Lane’s retirement. With Anderson in charge, Clark has had to go through extra obstacles in his efforts to protect the world. Anderson’s attempts to force Superman into making a formal declaration of loyalty to the country got them off to a rough start, and things have only declined from there. But despite their issues, Superman has repeatedly tried to remain on friendly terms with Anderson. Their working relationship took a turn for the worst in Superman & Lois season 2, episode 6, titled “Tried and True”. In a response to their dispute over Bizarro’s pendant, Anderson arrested Superman and decided to have him incarcerated alongside Tal-Rho.

Anderson’s decision may have kicked off a challenging new era for Superman in the Arrowverse. Of course, the show is unlikely to keep Clark in prison for very long, but it is possible that he’ll be on the opposite side of the law for an extended period, if not the rest of the season.
