Director Johnson took to Twitter with a short teaser for the upcoming whodunit film, which included some information already released to the public, and one big announcement. The title of the new Knives Out film is officially Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Along with the title of his new film, Johnson took some time to talk about his inspiration for the Knives Out franchise and the character of Benoit Blanc: author Agatha Christie. He praises the famed mystery writer, giving her credit for her ability to expand the whodunit genre and blur the lines. Furthermore, he talks about Christie's ability to have every novel stand on its own in tone and ambition and says he would aspire to do the same with his Detective Benoit Blanc stories.
Knives Out was released in 2019, despite being conceptualized by Johnson in 2005, and was received extremely well by both fans and critics alike. It achieved multiple Golden Globe nominations as well as an Oscar nomination. The film is best known as a whodunit story surrounding a rich family played by an all-star cast including Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, and the late Christopher Plummer.
