Haven Entertainment, the studio founded by industry legend Jade Raymond after her brief stint at Google, has just joined PlayStation Studios. Raymond revealed in a new interview that the deal is all about adding to PlayStation's live-service ambitions, but it's also bringing an innovative new way to develop games thanks to the cloud.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Raymond reveals Haven's development process is entirely cloud based. This started as a necessity as Haven was founded during the pandemic, but it's since become "a game changer in terms of how games are made." By relocating development into the cloud, Haven is "more efficient and able to output new ideas faster" than other game studios.

The cloud-based structure is also highly relevant to Haven's new live-service game being developed for the PS5."Our initial part of 'studio in the cloud' was really a focus on starting-up and building tools and the general things to get people working from home really quickly," said Raymond. "Now we're looking at the next step: how do we innovate in terms of certain modules that the live service and engine needs, and how do we do those things in a more scalable way that will really enable us to have a more rapidly evolving game and more productive people? That's the dream."
We know very little about what this live-service game will be, but we do know that it's something that Sony remains quite interested in. Sony announced in February it plans to bring 10 live-service games to market by 2026, with Haven's game announced back in July 2021.
