The critically acclaimed What Remains of Edith Finch has officially been confirmed for Xbox Series X/S and PS5, and is available now.
Annapurna and Giant Sparrow‘s 2017 title is currently available on Xbox One, PS4, PC, Switch and iOS, but a classification on the Taiwanese ratings board earlier this month suggested that current-gen versions were coming.
The Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 versions offer an enhanced version of the game that renders at 4K and runs at 60 frames per second.
Players who own the Xbox One or PS4 versions can upgrade to their respective current-gen versions for free.
What Remains of Edith Finch is the second and most recent game from California-based indie studio Giant Sparrow, which also developed 2012’s The Unfinished Swan.
It’s a single-player narrative adventure game consisting of a collection of short stories about a cursed family in Washington State.
Played from a first-person perspective, it sees players explore the history of Finch’s family as she attempts to figure out why she’s the last Finch left alive.
The game is notorious for its extremely dark subject matter, in which players relive the deaths of the Finch family members, including some children (albeit in an artistic, abstract way).
What Remains of Edith Finch won a string of high-profile awards including BAFTA’s Best Game 2018, and Best Narrative at both the 2018 Game Developers Choice Awards and The Game Awards 2017.
