Kingpin actor and Marvel Cinematic Universe baddie Vincent D’Onofrio reacts to the announcement of Daredevil: Born Again. D’Onofrio made his debut as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in Daredevil, which ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2018. Following the show’s critically acclaimed season 3, Netflix/ABC canceled its slate of Marvel shows, including Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, The Punisher, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D, and Daredevil. Despite fan campaigns to resurrect the Defenders universe, viewers were left to wonder whether they’d ever see Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock take on D’Onofrio's Kingpin again.
Last December, Murdock and Fisk made their official MCU debuts in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Disney+’s Hawkeye, respectively. No Way Home saw Cox cameo as Peter Parker’s attorney and, in Hawkeye, D’Onofrio reprised his role as the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia and Maya Lopez’s “Uncle” in its final two episodes. In March, it was revealed that Disney/Marvel Studios was making a Daredevil reboot show, which will see Cox and D’Onofrio together again. Now, at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again was confirmed as part of the MCU Phase 5 in Spring of 2024.
