During Shawn Aldridge and Adriana Melo's story in Action Comics #1040, an incident with Martian Manhunter confirms how powerful the Justice League's best healing factor actually is. J'onn has one of the most varied power sets in comics, including the usual flight, enhanced strength, and superhuman durability, as well as invisibility, shapeshifting, telepathy, and enhanced healing. Martian Manhunter is so powerful, even Superman has admitted he'd be afraid to fight him.
Martian Manhunter has one major weakness — a physical and psychological vulnerability to fire. While J'onn is impressively resilient, his pyrophobia can be debilitating, especially because his shapeshifting abilities mean that he's generally consciously deciding his form. In Action Comics #1040, during a battle against Doctor Trap (one of Martian Manhunter's lesser-known villains), J'onn gets blasted with fire and sprayed with acid. He's quickly downed, damaged to a stunning degree, but knows he'll quickly bounce back if he can overcome his instinctive fear. He then thinks to himself, «my body will heal itself. My cells regenerate. I will regain control.» Thankfully,J'onn's new cat, Double Stuff, pounces at Doctor Trap and scratches him. This distraction is enough to give Martian Manhunter a moment to heal.
